I am a guy with thick, 3b-3c curly hair. I used This is a Curl Gel Oil before I ever used This is a Curl Building Serum. Having picked this up and tried it a few times now, I can see why this is a cult favorite. This serum is an excellent one-and-done styler, as it is both super conditioning while adding hold. It leaves my hair soft and defined. While I think it is more conditioning than Gel Oil, it is lighter weight and therefore isn’t as elongating for me as the Gel Oil. While I don’t get as much elongation, this product dries more quickly which is always a positive for me. I am happy to have both Curl Building Serum and Gel Oil as I can get a more or less elongated look depending on my preference that day. The More Inside fragrance is my favorite haircare fragrance of all time. I will never stop raving about it!

My first impression: when I first used it I used it on damp/more dry hair. Even then I saw less frizz in my hair when I applied it even tho my hair was more on the dry side. The product itself is very lightweight and super creamy/silky consistency. It goes on the hair very smooth. My 2nd impression: I have 3b/c curls (low porosity) and I do see my hair being less frizzy when product was applied. This time around I put it on wet hair and about a quarter size each section (split my hair into fours) raked it through with my fingers, put a second product then brushed it through. My curls came out define and not frizzy. The curls held together and lasted through my next wash day (a week). I think it also created this form around the curls almost like gel cast without the hardness/stickiness of a gel. Product is really good!

First off, the scent is so amazing and takes you away to the islands upon initially taking a small amount and evenly distributing it to your curls. My hair is already short and curly, but I can tell that with any length of hair, a little bit goes a long way. If you are looking for frizz free curls during these hot humid months, this is a great product to incorporate into your styling routine. I put a small amount to my damp hair, and I rake it through. Then I follow it up with either mousse or gel and scrunch to get defined curls. I think this product works best when your hair is very damp and when you follow it up with something to seal and lock it and such as gel or a mousse.

The bottle broke during shipping and while I was cleaning it I had high hopes for it. Since the consistency of the serum was more of a conditioner I thought I was going to love it. The product dries down and hardness which makes the hair stiff. Then if you want to put your hair up, wet it a bit and comb it up your left with white residue. That’s not what I was looking for.

Davines' curl-building serum is an excellent solution for people looking to enhance their natural curls. It has decent hold and definition, and it's light enough not to weigh down the hair. However, I discovered that it did not fully reduce frizz, particularly in really humid situations. It adds a wonderful sheen to my curls and makes them look more polished, however the hold might be firmer for tighter curls. The perfume is lovely, but may be too strong for certain people. Overall, it's a good product, however it may work better with looser curls than tighter, more defined ones.
