“
The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems.

In 2021, we launched our partnership with Rodale Institute, a pioneer in research on regenerative organic agriculture and a leader in this movement to restore farming as a climate solution.
1% of our ecommerce revenue supports sustainable agriculture and is donated to Rodale Institute and our partner Slow Food USA.
Starting in March 2020, we supported City Harvest with a portion of our 1% for the Planet donations. City Harvest rescues food and distributes it to feed our neighbors in New York City.
We continued to support our longtime partner Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farmingin the Hudson Valley, training new farmers and advancing local food production.
Without opportunities to volunteer in person, we chose to support one of our favorite non-profits to work with, Earth Matter NY, a composting project on Governors Island.
We supported our first partner Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming with 1% of our ecommerce revenue.

An excerpt from his book Let My People Go Surfing
"In 2001, Craig Mathews and I founded 1% for the Planet, an alliance of companies that pledged to donate at least 1% of their sales to protecting and restoring the environment. (...) We opted for 1% of sales because it is a "difficult" number, not related to the variability of profits, which distinguishes us from companies that use green marketing to promote their products. The vague statement that a company donates "a percentage of sales or profits" is meaningless. It could be a dollar or a million. The name 1% for the Planet means that we will donate at least 1%."
