Upcycled mermaid hair tutorial

Upcycled Mermaid by Eric Rivera

—Eric Rivera, co-owner and stylist at Twisted Scissors Salon in Shelton, CT.

You'll need:

  1.  Prep your hair with This is a Blowdry Primer and This is a Volume Boosting Mousse.
  2. Section out the mohawk section based on how you part your hair, then section ear to ear separating the front from the back.
  3. Starting in the back taking horizontal sections and using a 1-inch curling iron: curl the hair in alternating directions, wrapping the hair around the iron twice and leaving the ends out, then running the curling iron over the ends for a smooth finish. Spray each section with MELU Hair Shield before curling.
  4. Continue that up the back of the head, then move to the sides curling everything from the ear forward and away from the face, and repeat on the other side.
  5. Moving to the mohawk section, take vertical sections and curl from the base, adding This is a Dry Texturizer for more body.
  6. Let everything cool for 10 minutes, then comb out with a wide tooth comb. Tease your mohawk section if more volume is desired.
  7. On either side from the ear forward, create a fishtail braid, fluff out your braid, then tie braids together in the back with an elastic and secure with a bobby pin.
  8. Pull out any hairs in the front and adjust the overall look as desired, adding whatever accessories you like to tie together your look. Finish with This is an Invisible No Gas Spray to secure the look, and This is a Shimmering Mist to add shine.
