How to Do a Hot Oil Treatment for Your Hair
1. Select a Nourishing Oil for Your Hair Type

2. Heat the Oil Using a Double Boiler
- Measure the oil: Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of your chosen oil into a heat-safe glass or stainless steel bowl. Avoid plastic, as it can warp or melt when exposed to high temperatures.
- Set up a double boiler: Fill a medium to large pot with a few inches of water and bring it to a gentle boil over high heat.
- Warm the oil: Carefully place your bowl into the pot, resting it above the water without letting it touch the bottom. Stir the oil occasionally and allow it to warm for 2 to 3 minutes, or until it feels comfortably warm to the touch.
3. Separate Your Hair into Four Sections
- Brush out your hair and split it vertically down the middle, creating two equal sections on either side of your head.
- Split those sections into two more to make them a little smaller.
- Clip all the sections up except one with a claw clip to keep them out of the way.
4. Massage the Oil into Your Roots and Scalp
- Start by applying the warm oil to the top section of your hair and gradually work your way down. Use your fingertips to gently massage the oil into your scalp using small, circular motions. Focus on thoroughly coating the roots and working the oil into the hair strands as you go.
- Lift sections of your hair to reach underneath and ensure even coverage at the roots. Once one side is fully treated, repeat the process on the other side of your head.

5. Drag the Oil Down Through the Ends of Your Hair
6. Cover Your Hair With a Shower Cap for 30 Minutes
7. Shampoo and Condition Your Hair
8. Repeat As Needed Based on Hair Type
