15 Easy Christmas Hairstyles

It’s the holiday season and chances are you’ve got a Christmas party on the calendar. The holidays are the perfect time to have some fun with your hair, whatever you decide to celebrate. We’re breaking down 15 Christmas hairstyles for every holiday party and celebration on your calendar.

15 Easy Hairstyles for Every Occasion This Christmas

These cute hairstyles with tutorials will keep you looking festive and are all easy enough to DIY.

1. Classic French Roll Updo

This is a classic holiday hairstyle for any celebration you show up to this season- zoom parties included!

  • Section your hair into 3 horizontal chunks.
  • Separate each section into two pieces and twist them loosely around each other until you reach the ends.
  • Then tuck the twist underneath one time and bobby pin it.
  • Do this with each section.
  • Pull gently at certain pieces to add texture and finish with a medium hold hairspray.

2. Halo Braid

This bohemian-inspired hairstyle that looks festive on both straight and curly hair.

  • Run a small amount of hair serum through the length of your strands for frizz-free manageability.
  • Part your hair into 2 equal sections from the front all the way to the back of your head.
  • Take a small amount of hair from one of your 2 sections and start to braid beginning from the nape of your neck, remembering to pick up additional hair as you weave. Continue around your head, following your hairline, until you reach back at your starting point.
  • Finish your braid, secure it with a headband and wrap the end of the braid around your head and pin it in place with bobby pins.

Flat iron beach waves Davines

3. Flat Iron Beach Waves

These winter waves are more structured than summer’s version so we’re using a flat iron to create them.

  • Work a curl prep cream and heat shield through your damp hair before blow drying.
  • Once your hair is dry, start about one inch away from the root and hold the flat iron vertically and slightly tilted away from your face and press down.
  • Twist the flat iron a half turn away from your face.
  • Use tension and hold the ends of your hair as you glide the flat iron halfway down the length of your hair.
  • Twist the flat iron another half-turn away from your face, and glide the rest of the way through using light tension.
  • Repeat this process twice per strand for extra bounce, or use larger sections for a looser look.

4. Bobby Pins

Make bobby pins the star hair accessory in your next holiday hairstyle.

  • Grab two sections of hair from the front and pull them back, just like you would when you wear your hair half up.
  • Cross one section of hair over the other.
  • Hold your hair in the middle and with a bobby pin, pointing up, pin it into your hair on the diagonal.
  • Do the same on the other side.
  • With a third bobby pin, pin it horizontally, creating a triangle.
  • Gently tuck away any wayward pieces of hair, and comb through the rest of your mane with your fingers.
  • Finish with a brushable hairspray.

5. Trendy Bob

This chin-grazing cut is having a moment, so if you're ready for a haircut before the new year try a trendy bob. Wear a deep side part and tuck one side behind your ear for your next holiday party or celebration.

6. Waterfall Braid

This Christmas hairstyle works best on medium to long strands (see more long hair tutorials).

  • Starting near your hairline, pick up three strands of hair.
  • Cross the strand closest to the top of your head over the middle section.
  • Cross the bottom section over the new middle section.
  • Cross the new top section over the new middle, and then the bottom over the middle.
  • Drop the middle strand down, so it blends in with the rest of your hair.
  • Pick up a piece about the same size from near your part.
  • This strand becomes your new top section—cross it over the middle to continue the braid.
  • Cross the bottom strand over the new section and repeat all the way around your head.
  • When you get behind your opposite ear, do a normal, three-strand braid for about an inch and secure the braid behind your ear with a bobby pin.

7. Statement Headband

Perfect for making short hair look a little more festive, a statement headband is the “it” hair accessory for the holidays. Just brush through your hair and slip a headband over your strands.

8. Messy Bun with Glam Pins

A perfectly tousled topknot accessorized with some embellished bobby pins is the cool-girls holiday hairstyle.

  • Flip your head upside down and pull your hair into a high ponytail. Skip the brush—a few bumps add to the overall look. Leave a few stray strands out of your ponytail to frame your face.
  • Once your hair is gathered up in your high ponytail, twist your strands until they're tight and wrap them around the base of the pony to form your messy bun.
  • You can wrap it as tight or loose as you’d like and secure your bun with embellished bobby pins (try ones that are sparkly and metallic).

Davines retro waves hair tutorial

9. Retro Curls

Nothing says festive like old Hollywood glam in the form of retro curls.

  • Apply a heat shield for hair to your damp strands and use a blow-dryer to dry.
  • Divide your hair into sections, beginning with a clean line from ear to ear.
  • Take a half-inch section of hair, and wrap it around a curling iron. Hold it in place for 5- 10 seconds and release. You should have a ringlet.
  • Using a wide-set comb, brush the curl out in a downward motion and tease the back to bring the shape of the curl back into the hair (curl everything in the same direction and be gentle when combing your hair - it's shockingly easy to brush out your waves completely).
  • Complete the section, create a second section above the first, and so on.
  • Spritz your retro curls with a shine spray to finish.

Slicked back ponytail Davines

10. Slicked Back Pony

This holiday hairstyle is a chic option if you have medium length to long hair.

  • Apply any of your favorite hair shine products to the hairline and smooth your strands back into a tight ponytail at the back of your head.
  • Take a small section of your ponytail and wrap it around the base to hide the elastic and secure it with a bobby pin.

11. Fishtail Braid

A fishtail braid is another easy Christmas hairstyle for long hair.

  • Grab the section of hair you want to fishtail and split it in half, holding one section in each hand.
  • Grab a tiny subsection of hair from the outside of the ponytail in your right hand, cross it over top, and join it together with the section in your left hand.
  • Then, cross a small sliver of hair from the left section and add it to the right side.
  • Continue grabbing tiny sections of hair, crossing them over, and joining them to the other half until you've reached the bottom of your strands.
  • Secure the ends with a hair tie.

12. Sleek Bun

This is the perfect wash-and-go style for a low-key holiday celebration. Just rub a molding gel through your damp hair, twist it into a tight bun and secure it with bobby pins.

Braided crown hair tutorial Davines

13. Braided Crown

This one seems complicated, but it’s another easy holiday hairstyle.

  • Part your hair down the middle and separate into two equal halves on either side of your head.
  • Braid each and secure with a clear elastic.
  • Cross each braid to the other side of your head along the line a headband would lie. Secure each braid with bobby pins.
  • Set it with a strong hairspray.

14. Bubble Ponytail

This fun take on the traditional ponytail makes it a party-worthy Christmas hairstyle.

  • Pull your hair into a high ponytail.
  • Tie clear hair elastics down the length of your ponytail about two inches apart.
  • Gently tug at each section to create the look of a bubble.
  • Finish with hairspray.

Half up half down hair Davines

15. Half up Half Down Bun

If you have thick hair, this is the holiday hairstyle for you. Gathering half of your hair when you have a ton of it and it’s thick can be heavy and uncomfortable, likely ruining any festivities. Instead, section off just the top of your hair, from temple to temple, and twist it into a bun, secured with bobby pins.
