How to Care for Bleached or Lightened Hair

PRO TIPS

As popular as blonde hair is, it’s no secret that maintenance is anything but easy. That's why we are happy to share our new low-maintenance Graduated Blonde color service, and also our six best pieces of home-care advice for blonde hair!

Platinum, honey, butter, ash, and bronde are a few words mentioned at numerous salons to describe the type of blonde desired by a client. Blonde is a much sought-after hair color, and though it’s genetically rare, a skillful hairdresser can transform strands, giving them a lighter look — whether it’s pure frosty white or laden with dimensional highlights. As popular as blonde hair is, it’s no secret that maintenance is anything but easy. But with our new Graduated Blonde color service you can obtain the low-commitment and low-maintenance blonde you are looking for!

NEW! Low-maintenance lightening service in salon

The secret to healthy blonde hair, without spending too much time on it, starts with the right color service in the salon. If you have a desire to lighten your hair, but are afraid that blonde will lead to excessive maintenance, then our new Graduated Blonde in-salon color service may be for you.

This involves the lightening of some locks around the face, to be decided together with your Davines hairdresser to enhance the facial features and make your complexion shine.

Graduated Blonde is a low-maintenance servicewith impact. In addition, since the lightened locks are just a few, by changing the position of the hair parting you can change the color that surrounds your face: lighter or darker, depending on your feeling of the day, the makeup you want to wear, or simply to give a daily twist to your look.

Home-care advice for blonde, lightened or bleached hair

Once your customized in-salon color service has treated you with the blonde of your dreams, we encourage you to protect your hair with the right home-care products. Many blondes know that products like a heat protection spray and a brightening shampoo are vital to keeping hair healthy and retaining its tone, but there are several other steps you can incorporate for successful maintenance of the hair color you adore.

1. USE A BLUE SHAMPOO FOR BLONDE HAIR

If brassy tones or yellow tints are infiltrating the hair color you’re trying to maintain a little more than you’d like them to, a blue shampoo is necessary. Color changes can be caused by a variety of things, including heated tools, pollutants, chlorine, sun, and even the type of water in your shower. Shampoos with these specific pigments — like our Heart of Glass Silkening Shampoo with Indigo Blue Extract — will help restore the right shade and keep the color picture-perfect until you visit your salon for a touch-up and toning.

2. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE SHAMPOO WITH A CONDITIONER

Everyone needs a great combination shampoo+conditioner, but blondes will want to opt for formulas that are built specifically for their hair color. Shampoos for blondes should remove oil and product residue without fully stripping the hair of shine and moisture. A fortifying, rich conditioner is necessary for blonde or bleached hair, too, for softening and nourishing strands. Try our Heart of Glass Rich Conditioner with Indigo Blue Pigments, to preserve the brightness of your blonde.

3. BLONDE OR BLEACHED HAIR TREATMENTS

Made specifically for blondes, these nourishing hair treatments are formulated to repair damage and other concerns caused by outside factors or bleaching. Intense Treatment from the Heart of Glass line is ideal for giving nourishment, supporting the hair’s elasticity, and stopping breakage. Make sure to evenly distribute the product on all sections of the hair, softly combing or brushing to untie all knots without damaging the fibers.

4. USE HEAT PROTECTION
Blondes are particularly prone to damage caused by heat. When blonde hair has been bleached or dyed, it’s much more vulnerable, therefore a heat protecting spray, leave-in conditioner, or similar styling product should be a key component of any blonde’s routine. The Heart of Glass Sheer Glaze is a UV-resistant spray that’s perfect for applying to towel-dried strands prior to styling, using heated tools, or heading out to a place with plenty of sunshine.

5. TRY A HAIR MASK
Dull and damaged hair can be revitalized with the right treatments. In the realm of treatments, hair masks are a surefire way to provide nutrients and nourishment to hair that’s in need of loveafter multiple treatments or tresses that haven’t been given enough attention and care. Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Hair Mask is great for this, as is the leave-in SU Hair Mask if you plan to go to the sea or pool.

6. COLD WASHES
Hot water can put a damper on vibrant colors and cause frizz and rough texture. Try to give your hair cold rinses to restore shine and provide a more gentle wash. A burst of cold water at the end of your shower can close the hair cuticle and lock in shine.

7. GET PROFESSIONAL HELP
Professional stylists and colorists are the best resources for hair help. Find a Davines hairstylist near you to consult with you on the type of blonde you’re hoping to achieve. They’ll also be able to provide advice on the best products for maintaining the color and health of your hair.

Personalized home-care tips for every type of blonde hair

I need advice.
I have highlighted blond hair covering gray, my hair is fine and wavy. I also have some thinning hair by my temples
Can i use the energized shampoo line for regrowing the thinning areas for my bleached strands?
